THIS CONTEST IS CLOSED!! THANKS TO ALL WHO ENTERED.

To celebrate the re-launch of greengrechen.com and because we love you (awww…) we’re giving away a leather/recycled inner tube clutch (each valued at $220) by Passchal to two lucky winners! Details on how to enter are below.

The giveaways: Each clutch is made from recycled inner tubes and leather that is vegetable tanned and chrome free.

passchal eco-friendly handbags passchal eco-friendly handbags

About the company:
They’ve recycled approximately 20 tons of inner tubes since they started. No, that’s not the only thing they’ve done, but we think it’s the coolest. Tires, and presumably inner tubes, are discarded EVERYWHERE; 20 tons fewer in landfills, along the beach, or on the side of the road is an awesome achievement. And the fact that they are creative enough to take those inner tubes and convert them into high-end luxury accessories (yes, the inner tubes undergo a rigorous but environmentally friendly, multi-day cleaning process) without any formal training – just a commitment to recycling and the environmental movement – is pretty great too. In addition to using recycled inner tubes, Passchal incorporates leather trim and sides to their rubber bags, but following their eco-friendly beliefs, all leathers used are by-products, vegetable dyed and chrome free, and all bags are handcrafted using the highest quality hardware and materials available.

How to enter: leave a comment telling us what you think of the Passchal line of environmentally-friendly handbags; Which one is your favorite? Would you carry one? You must enter with a valid e-mail address, although no one will see it but me. (bonus: subscribe to our e-mail updates and we’ll add your name to the pot AGAIN. double bonus: register and post in our forums; we’ll enter your name one more time.)

I love The Bag!!! The new york tote is really cute too.I can;t believe that these bags are made out of tires and weird stuff like that.I would so carry this bag,I would carry it til it fell apart! That could take years since it’s amde out of such tough material. I would brag to everyone that my bag was made from scrap parts. So Cool. I sure hope I win!

Erin October 5, 2008 at 4:56 pm

I love coming across companies that recycle potential waste into amazingly fashionable products. I’m surprised I hadn’t heard of Passchal before. Their whole collection is amazing – the hobo bag is probably my favorite, along with these amazing clutches. I’ve been looking for an eco-friendly clutch, so this is definitely something I would carry to death!

Thanks for pointing out this amazing line of bags, I’m definitely going to keep my eye on them!

Dan October 5, 2008 at 8:36 pm

I like the messenger bag. Yes, I would carry it.

Alyx October 5, 2008 at 9:02 pm

of all their bags, I like the one they call “the bag” the best (and would carry it and a couple others they have). cool concept and i bet truck tires are hella durable. you always have a good eye for cool stuff :)

grechen October 5, 2008 at 9:05 pm

lol alyx. thanks for comin’ over :)

Lis October 5, 2008 at 9:54 pm

my favorite is the scrunch and yes i would carry one they are so pretty and an extremely large bonus is that they are eco friendly : )

Allison October 5, 2008 at 11:47 pm

Love this line! As the granddaughter of a farmer with many tractors, I think the re-use concept they have is awesome. They are all very functional; the scrunch is definitely fun and the the Downtown Brown is classic and roomy for work (laptop, files, etc) or weekends. But my favorite is the pauline, as a fan of red & attractive work bags, this takes the cake! The healthy, environmental cake ;) .

Julia Morrison October 6, 2008 at 12:44 am

It is impressive what they can do with recycling processes. Are these the only colors available? A nice dark green would be really classy but I like the design.

bunny October 6, 2008 at 5:53 am

I would LOVE to carry around the Square clutch! It’s gorgeous!!!

bunny October 6, 2008 at 6:01 am

I’ve subscribed and joined your forum! :)

caryn October 6, 2008 at 7:21 am

I love that they are made from tractors. I would carry any of these bags but especially like the more colorful Hobo.

Jean H October 6, 2008 at 8:33 am

The Hobo bag is my fave, but all of the clutches are chic. Maybe you have created a new genre… tractor hip. I love this giveaway; thanks for the chance.

Sherril October 6, 2008 at 10:00 am

These are great looking as well as eco-friendly. Love them!

Mary henderson October 6, 2008 at 11:15 am

great way to recycle and GO GREEN

Charlotte Winters October 6, 2008 at 12:29 pm

I like the Dad’s baby case. My brother-in-law has been looking for a “macho” diaper bag for his new addition. I also like the clutch bag. I’d use it If I won. It looks really cool and I like the recycled element to it alot. Thanks for the contest.

Susan Yates October 6, 2008 at 1:56 pm

I love the Messenger bag and weekender bag you call the downtown bag. Why didn’t I think of this I could have kept all my papers dry with bags made of recycled tractor inner tubes. Your bags are really great. I may try making some of these.

Tammy V. October 6, 2008 at 6:50 pm

I love that you can make recycled stuff into such cute products. I really like the Uptown one.

I love the bags and love anything “green”

bonnie byrne October 7, 2008 at 9:28 am

I must confess I have never heard nor seen these. But I don’t get out much anymore. But I love the idea and certainly will look for them on my next shopping trip. Green is good.

Bebemiqui October 7, 2008 at 11:13 am

I really like the messanger brief…I’m moving more and more into buying clothing & accessories only made from reused items. This would be a nice addition!

I really like the Downtown tote. I’ve tried buying more organic and eco-friendly items as well. I like supporting local artists and wish I could afford to go green in more aspects of my life.

Anna Ladd October 7, 2008 at 1:28 pm

be nice to win

Stina October 7, 2008 at 2:35 pm

Love the black clutch – and love even more that they are made out of recycled products. I’m part of the green team at my office, and we are always looking for new ideas!

Jennae @ Green Your Decor October 7, 2008 at 3:40 pm

I am so loving these bags! My favorite style is the scrunch, though the eco diva in me makes me wish it wasn’t made with leather. But it is seriously gorgeous, and I would definitely make an exception and carry it!

grechen October 7, 2008 at 3:50 pm

@jennae i’m a bad greenie cuz i still love my leather :-) but am always willing to try out alternatives. and i think the leather on these “moderates” the fact that they are made from recycled inner tubes; makes them more “luxurious” lol

Lori October 8, 2008 at 5:53 am

“The Bag”. They are all very cool, look great, and eco-friendly, I would carry one in an instant!

Susan October 8, 2008 at 1:17 pm

Love that the Passchal line looks so chic, yet incorporates recycled materials. My favorite is the Pauline handbag, but I would carry any or all of them.

Amazing bags and awesome recycling! They are gorgeous and the colors are terrific and so vibrant! I would love to carry one!

Yoonmee October 8, 2008 at 2:19 pm

What a neat concept for handbags! I gotta say, I love the yellow clutch the best. * crosses fingers and hopes she wins it * Love the new Green Grechen site, too!

Kim October 8, 2008 at 2:46 pm

I like the downtown! I’m all for a bag that deliberately mixes brown and black, so it goes with anything ;-)

Grechen – the new site is fabulous! I’m going to have to point my veggie friend to check it out. She’s always looking for attractive non-leather shoes and I’m guessing you could help her with that!

Dianna Murrah October 8, 2008 at 3:05 pm

I’m glad to see more & more people going green, & would love to own one of the clutches.

Laura October 8, 2008 at 3:38 pm

Heya Grech! Just getting around to peruse your new site–nice work, my friend! This Passchal is neat stuff–and I am partial to the simplicity of the crunch clutch!

sandra kao October 9, 2008 at 8:03 am

what an interesting idea! and a great use for otherwise landfill fodder. i would most likely carry the messenger bag or have dad carry the dads baby case.

anna October 9, 2008 at 3:21 pm

I love the square clutch! These are the most attractive tractor bits I’ve ever seen! Wonderful idea–recycling that actually looks like it would have a second life and not fall apart anytime soon!

Pat October 9, 2008 at 6:00 pm

Love all the bags, I will take any of them especiall the clutch. I wish I would have been born 40 years later so I could enjoy all the new things just ordinary people can come with. I guess my generation the 50′s has not to much to brag about except Give Peace a Chance..

annette white October 10, 2008 at 12:20 am

love the clutch, would go great with my little black dress

Jennae @ Green Your Decor October 10, 2008 at 11:44 am
