Enter to Win an eco-friendly Beth Springer Handbag!

by grechen on May 20, 2009 | SUBSCRIBE | TWITTER | FACEBOOK |

I’ve loved Beth Springer since I first laid eyes on her “Ecovertible” bag (and then received my own) and learned about her commitment to environmental sustainability. Beth strives for zero waste production (she uses remnants for notecards, cuffs & one-of-a-kind purses), uses vegetable tanned leathers, and lines some bags in organic hemp/cotton. Recently, she also added a gorgeous vegan bag as well as a really lovely tyvek bag to her already fabulous lineup!

Beth is truly doing her part to create a little less waste and a little more love (through beautiful and lovingly crafted handbags!) in this world, and I’m so excited that she’s sponsoring this giveaway for her market bag.

The Prize

I’d love to make some home-made ice cream with my two children & eat them all up in edible cones. No waste and a little more love!

Annmarie May 28, 2009 at 6:35 pm

I love the C2 Tote- Italian vegetable dyed leather espresso…because it’s big enough to hold all my stuff and yet still looks totally pulled together!

I like the Soft-T blue because of all the room I would have plus I love the color blue

To work on creating less waste, I use the same Tupperware lunch container that I used when I was in 4th grade. My mother saved it for me, and even though I’m 30, I carry around this bright pink and yellow Tupper lunch container. It’s perfect and carries my breakfast and my lunch in one neat package. Plus, I get plenty of compliments about it (it does not scream “10-year-old”, fyi).

The soft totes/messenger bags are perfect for me. I like to swing a bag messenger style to free up my hands, but it also has to be big enought to get my stuff inside of it! The soft-T blue is great-a strp and a handle, plus the outside pocket (and it comes in purple-my favorite color!).

Hi, I went to the Beth Springer online boutique and I love all the bags, but my favorite one wasthe one called ” Soft-T Blue Bag”
.Everything about this bag is perfect.I love the color blue, the size, the strap(which you can also remove). It has everything you need in a bag, is functional with a lovely color and a great size( to travel, to carry your laptop or your kids stuff!!!!).I wish I can win!!!!
About creating more love, I really agree with you Grechen.
Something so easy and simple, like smile to the people or say something nice, like in the “Enchanted “movie, when Amy waits for someone to say just the word “Welcome”, and when Patrick Dempsey says to her :”Welcome to New York “,she smiles.
It was a simple scene of the movie but it has everything to do with the real world. We have to smile more often to the people on the streets, be more nice.I am sure these simples gestures can change the world for sure.I am with you Grechen!!!
About creating less waste, I think I should start to take my plastic bags to the supermarkets that have outside the big containers to put your used plastic bags.I have tons at home!

I ~love~ the Soft-T tote — what a fabulous everyday bag that would be for the summer!!!

Jess June 1, 2009 at 11:56 am

To create a little less waste — I try to remember to bring my own bag for getting groceries. But when I forget, I reuse the plastic bags a number of ways; they’re great for carrying my lunch to work, as package padding, and excellent liners for my small trash cans!

To create a little more love — simple acts of kindness are essential! Hold the door for the person who is running to catch your elevator; smile at the people in your neighborhood; and make sure your loved ones know how much you love them :)

Brenda June 1, 2009 at 12:14 pm

I’m going to use reusable shopping bags all the time when I go grocery shopping, instead of just sometimes.

I also love the Haystack tote!

Valerie Hoffmann June 1, 2009 at 8:12 pm

We’ve always followed this simple rule to save water and the environment: “If it’s yellow, let it mellow. If it’s brown, flush it down.”

Valerie Hoffmann June 1, 2009 at 8:15 pm

I think I MUST have the Beth Springer “Soft-t-tote” in blue. No, maybe the “Volo” in espresso….or maybe…..

Helene June 2, 2009 at 9:42 am

I try to always be conscious about wasting whether it be energy, water , food… and also paying attention to the people around me ..
also if i were to win the bag, i would make sure to let everyone know of its environmental benefits!

I’m a big fan of buying vintage clothing and accessories as well as donating to charity every season and buying/selling things at resale boutiques.
Following & RT’ed the giveaway @Glamutante. Thanks!

My wife buys clothes and shoes at Goodwill and reworks them so they’re almost new designs for herself and my daughters.

Kathy Vallee June 8, 2009 at 5:39 am

I started to use cloth bags and energy bulbs in our lamps to help out

CINDY June 9, 2009 at 12:00 pm

USE THE REUSABLE BAGS WHEN I GO SHOPPING.
AND USE THE ENERGY BULBS

Rhonda Mason June 9, 2009 at 2:02 pm

I have stopped using paper plates and cups. What a waste just to save me- what- 5 minutes washing dishes? How selfish I was! Thanks!

My new favorite thing is to wrap presents in items I have already in my home. I think it adds a personal touch, and it’s a great way to use up old yarn, newspaper, cardboard (for tags & bottoms of gift bags), etc. Honestly wrapping paper seems like a huge waste of money anyway.

Laura June 9, 2009 at 2:46 pm

And I have now fallen head over heels in love with the Gumdrop Vegan bag. How beautiful is that! Great work Beth! The colors and pattern are so fashionable, and the design looks like it can really hold a lot of things. Delicious!

I like the Soft T Blue bag

Leigh June 12, 2009 at 2:18 pm

Soft-T washed cognac is my favorite!

To reduce waste, i am a reusable bag fanatic, I refuse to leave the market with a plastic or paper bag. I’ll just have the checker put the groceries back in the cart roll it to my car and unpack it there if I forget my sacks. My husband calls his lunches “adventures in bags” since I reuse every bread bag, cereal lining bag, chip bag for sandwiches and such.

We use energy efficient light bulbs AND turn off the lights as often as possible. We also purchase eco-friendly cleaning and laundry products that have less impact on the environment. At school, our 7th grade students started a recycling campaign and our entire school district turned off some lights – in fact we were just recognized for having the largest energy reduction due to staff and students efforts (a big cost reduction too – good for the economic environment)

ChristineB June 15, 2009 at 3:22 pm

I love the Cinch- drawstring leather shoulder bag in blue. Elegant and casual and fun.

ChristineB June 15, 2009 at 3:29 pm

In order to use a little less waste I fill reusable water bottle for my kids to take to school. I know it takes a little more time but prevents less waste in the landfill. Most water bottles are consumed away from the home because of convenience and are more likely to not be recycled because of lack of recycling bins in the public.

CMC June 16, 2009 at 11:52 am

Something I’ve been doing to “create a little less waste and a little more love” is bringing my own travel mug to Starbucks or Dunkin’ Donuts and having them fill it for me instead of using their cups. DD has styrofoam cups with plastic lids (YIKES!) and while Starbucks’ cups are paper, the lids are plastic. It’s just a little something, but I like to think I’m making a difference.

CC June 16, 2009 at 4:21 pm

I love the Soft-T Blue…. My way to contribute to less waste is by collecting plastic bottles, sodas cans and glass bottles and returning them with my 7 year old nephew – with the procedes we have donate it all to our local community garden here in Brooklyn that was once a dump but now a gorgeous piece of land. Great giveaway – great site!

JamieU June 16, 2009 at 10:08 pm

My family and I have been trying to work on creating less waste in the garbage. We have started a compost and are preparing to use it to grow a garden.

My favorite Beth Springer bag is the Soft-T washed cognac. It is so stylish yet useful. With its long strap, you could even bike with it.

Nancy June 17, 2009 at 8:00 pm

Definitely, reuse glass jars creating less waste and remaking them with love for storing food condiments, pencil holders, vases and much more.

My favorite bag is the Market Bag. I like that it is a tote bag and can hold everything in it! We just planted fruit trees in our backyard and I am reading about growing vegetables and composting. My goal is to start changing our lives “naturally” one step at a time.

annalene June 19, 2009 at 6:13 am

i buy a ton of used/vintage clothing and accessories! its economical and it cuts down on the amount of raw materials & energy that needs to be used to create new products.

annalene June 19, 2009 at 6:16 am
