I see the eco-movement as an opportunity for personal growth more than anything. As I learn more and more about how the clothes we wear, the food we eat and the things we buy affect our environment, I see opportunities for me to do things better or differently, that will both improve my life personally, and contribute to a (small, but meaningful) reduction in waste, energy, and chemical pollution globally – and vice versa.
A couple of personal examples are my fiancée’s and my decisions to go down to one car, and to go vegan. Both of those decisions will affect our personal lives significantly (we’ll save money, and become healthier), but they’re also important small steps we can take to reduce pollution and protest the excessive farming of animals for human consumption. We also know that these are the RIGHT things to do.
So, as I continue to go on my “green adventures,” I’m also embarking on a journey of personal growth and discovery. And there’s no better way to go on a journey than to join with others, so I’m bringing you with me! (well, you only have to come if you want to, you can just watch me go on mine if you prefer)
Every Friday I’m going to post a “5 Things” list – maybe it will be a gratitude list, a “happiness” list, or a “what I learned” list, but the goal will be for me to reflect on the past week in a positive way (and you too if you want). Reflection and positivity can’t help but lead to personal growth and improvement, right?
On to today’s list…
5 Things I’m Thankful For
That my fiancee is an AMAZING cook, and he loves creating new recipes.
The beautiful park nearby where I can take my dog and play frisbee or just walk.
I’ve kept my daily AM yoga practice up for 10 days in a row – I’m excited about making it a habit again
The Prescription for Nutritional Healing – I always consult this book to help me identify vitamins and herbs I can use for a specific problem. I just started the recommended regimen for migraines and I can tell that they are much less severe. For that, I am ETERNALLY thankful!!!
My visitors. I got a very nice note today from someone who visits Grechen’s Closet everyday and looks forward to the Monday e-mail newsletters. And I’m so glad I can interact here with such a great group of commenters.

I love this idea! Gratitude and humility never go out of style. And Leo’s food does look *amazing.* Next time I’m in Atlanta, I’m inviting myself over for dinner.
Anna’s last blog post..oh brother, wear art thou?
that would be so awesome – we love to entertain – even though we can only fit about 4 people in the condo at a time LOL. small groups are better anyway
