TOMS ShoesEDUN - Capsule / Pre-Fall Launch TOMS

From the yearly archives:

2009

I’m a sucker for anything with hearts and stars on it – bonus for both – and am always a fan of independent designers using recycled metals…like Kris Nations. These recycled gold or silver star cuffs are only $55 (they’d make a wonderful gift for your sister, or for yourself!) at Eco Citizen:

From the makers of Deux Lux, comes their little sister bag line, Tulu! From the moment I saw these at Moxsie, I was smitten. I love the interesting styling, and practical designs, AND the price point (they top out at $84).

When the lovely people over at Moxsie offered to send me one to review, I said “Yes, Please!” and chose the Havana Knot shoulder bag in Grey:

I received the bag yesterday, and took it out for an afternoon of Ikea shopping & dinner at my favorite vegan pizza place, Pizza Fusion. My favorite thing about this bag is how light it is – I can hardly tell I’m wearing it, which is wonderful once I get all my crap in there…it’s still pretty light, and easy to carry. You would never know it’s not leather unless you knew it wasn’t leather, it’s really soft and well-made. I was not sure it would be easy to get into as I’m not used to hobo-style bags anymore (I mostly carry satchels now), but it is, and the inside pockets hold all my essentials (phone, lipgloss, keys) within easy reach. I also THINK you can adjust the strap to a longer length, like messenger style, by removing it (one of the the circle fasteners has an opening) and undoing the knot. I didn’t try it yet, but I think that could work…here’s a picture of my outfit with it today (sorry I look so agitated, I was very hungry!):

For my first vegan handbag, this one is a winner :) If you’d like one too, or know someone who would love one as a gift, use code GRECHENLOVE through 1/1 for 15% off at Moxsie + free shipping in time for 12/24 if you order by 12/21!!

Must Have: Nixxi & Deux FM 40% off at Nimli

by grechen on December 17, 2009 | SUBSCRIBE | TWITTER | FACEBOOK |

Use code NIXXI40 and DEUXFM40 for 40% off all Nixxi & Deux FM pieces at Nimli through 12/22. Both of these designers create great not-boring-at-all-basics made from organic cotton/bamboo/soy & other fabrics. My favorite is this silk dress by Deux FM, which would be $110 after the code:

Must Have: Inhabit Organic Cotton on sale

by grechen on December 16, 2009 | SUBSCRIBE | TWITTER | FACEBOOK |

I’ve mentioned this before many times, but in addition to James Perse, Inhabit NY is my next favorite designer. I wish both of them did more in organic cotton, but hopefully it will come soon, but in the mean time, Inhabit does sometimes have a few pieces available in organic cotton, and luckily right now, they’re on sale!

The tee is $48, tank is $42 and the long sleeve tee is $48 – they’re more like woven tees instead of the “normal” tee you’re used to, but they’re really fabulous, and hold up well (I don’t have any of the organic cotton pieces, but the conventional cotton has always held up nicely for me.) Must Have: Alex & Ani on Gilt

by grechen on December 14, 2009 | SUBSCRIBE | TWITTER | FACEBOOK |

If you haven’t heard, Gilt is one of the MANY online sample sites that popped up in the last year – and one of my favorites (I also love Rue La La – use this link to sign-up and you’ll get a $10 credit!!). I don’t normally buy stuff just because it’s on sale, but I use these sample sale sites to seek out items from designer I love for about 50% off. Sometimes the deals are better than others, but overall, I think they’re worth a look.

One of the designers I was looking forward to seeing on a sample sale site was Alex & Ani. Most of their pieces are affordable anyway, but on Gilt through 12/15, some are marked nearly 50% off. And everything is made using recycled metals as a base.
